Nancy Zangrilli focuses her legal practice in areas of products liability, pharmaceutical liability, and insurance coverage and subrogation. Nancy represents a diverse group of clients including self-insured corporations, manufacturers, homeowners and insurance companies.

Nancy handles high-profile property damage cases at the firm that involve alleged defective products. She has worked on multiple cases involving extensive fire damage allegedly resulting from defective electrical appliances, such as heaters, fans and power strips. Nancy has also handled death cases and cases involving paralysis resulting from alleged defective toys and recreational equipment. She handles all aspects of these types of cases including pretrial, trial and post-trial work.

Nancy also handles pharmaceutical matters on behalf of a major retailer. These matters include death cases and claims of severe adverse drug interactions, which allegedly result from “mis-filled” prescriptions.

Nancy has extensive experience representing corporations in personal injury matters. She has handled hundreds of cases involving simple slip and falls as well as more significant personal injuries cases, including a fall from a rafter and head injuries resulting in severe brain damage.

To give back to the community, Nancy volunteers her time at a local high school assisting with its mock trial team. She helps high school students with their opening statements and closing arguments, and she also acted as a judge at their mock trial competition. Nancy also regularly attends fund raisers for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

In addition to her work at McDonnell & Associates, Nancy is the Pennsylvania Managing Attorney (Of Counsel) to Gennet, Kallmann, Antin & Robinson, P.C., a New Jersey-based insurance coverage, defense and recovery firm. She handles all of the firm’s subrogation and insurance coverage claims filed in Pennsylvania.

Second-chaired a jury trial on behalf of a large manufacturer of space heaters where it was alleged that a commercial rental property was destroyed in a fire due to manufacturing and design defects contained within a space heater. The defense established that the fire was caused by defective house wiring instead of the space heater resulting in a defense verdict.

Obtained a defense verdict before a jury in Philadelphia County on behalf of an insurance company in a breach of contract and bad faith action. The corporate plaintiff, who sustained extensive flood damage to one of its properties, claimed that it was entitled to coverage under its commercial property insurance policy provided by the defendant. Nancy proved that the property was abandoned under the terms of the insurance policy, and therefore, the loss was not covered.

Represented a large manufacturer of floor fans sued by a retreat center alleging that a defective fan caused a fire to a residential housing unit resulting in property damage over $500,000. After extensive investigation and testing, the defense successfully argued that the fan was not the cause of the fire. The case settled with a favorable outcome for the defendant.

Represented plaintiff in a premises liability case against a university. The minor plaintiff was injured after falling from a rafter while working on campus, resulting in multiple severe orthopedic injuries, including multi-level spinal compression fractures. The parties reached a favorable settlement after proving that the university was negligent in failing to provide adequate supervision.

Reached a favorable settlement in a Federal Tort Claims Act case. The plaintiff was injured after being thrown to the ground while assisting firefighters in transporting a hose to a hydrant during a house fire. The case settled after Nancy proved that the accident fell within a narrow exception to the governmental immunity provisions of the Act.

Secured summary judgment on behalf of a defendant retailer in the Court of Common Pleas for Chester County. The plaintiff, who was deemed a temporary employee of the defendant, alleged significant wrist injuries after a shelf fell on her hand while working at the defendant’s retail store. The court ruled that the plaintiff was a “borrowed servant,” and therefore, the defendant is entitled to be protected from liability pursuant to the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation immunity provisions.

Secured a defense verdict after an arbitration in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The plaintiff alleged that as a result of a slip and fall on liquid at the defendant’s retail premises, she sustained serious and permanent spinal injuries that prevented her from fully returning to her employment. Nancy argued that the plaintiff failed to present any evidence regarding the cause of the spill or how long it had remained on the floor before the accident. The arbitration panel agreed that the plaintiff failed to meet her burden that the defendant had constructive notice of the spill on the floor and rendered a defense verdict.
