Lisa M. Only concentrates her legal practice in the areas of premises liability, premise security, products liability, professional liability, and motor vehicle accidents for one of the nation’s largest retailers. Lisa manages her own caseload and handles all aspects of her cases, including depositions, discovery, motion practice, case management conferences, mediations, and arbitrations. Lisa brings over 10 years of experience to the firm in her respective practice areas.

Prior to joining McDonnell & Associates, Lisa worked at an insurance defense firm handling hundreds of personal injury, product liability, and professional liability matters. Lisa has drafted and argued motions, attended and drafted memoranda for mediations and arbitrations, and prepared and responded to discovery. She has also prepared clients for and handled depositions, attended site inspections, attended case management conferences, attended and drafted memoranda for settlement and pre-trial conferences, drafted litigation evaluations, and assisted in all aspects of trial preparation.

Prior to going into private practice, Lisa served as a law clerk for the New Jersey Superior Court, Civil Division in Gloucester County, for the Honorable Jean B. McMaster, J.S.C. In that capacity, Lisa researched and drafted bench memoranda and opinions, and mediated small claims matters.

Lisa is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Lisa obtained her J.D. and M.B.A. degree from Stetson University in 2009.

Lisa has been serving on the Board of Directors of Cathedral Kitchen for over 8 years. This charity provides daily meals for impoverished residents of Camden, New Jersey and a culinary arts program for underemployed and unemployed individuals.

Obtained a summary judgment in favor of a national retail store client. The plaintiff walked into an automatic door that opened towards him at a retail store. Plaintiff claimed that the automatic door was defective, which caused the door to swing towards him at a rapid speed and strike him in the head. Lisa argued that the plaintiff failed to produce any evidence that the retail store was negligent or that a dangerous or faulty condition existed when the automatic door opened towards the plaintiff.

Obtained a summary judgment in favor of a commercial property owner, where the plaintiff claimed to have sustained injuries due to a slip and fall accident. In this case, the plaintiff passed away after the lawsuit was filed and no estate was raised within the two-year statute of limitations. In addition, no representatives were able to be located. Lisa argued that summary judgment was appropriate, because there was no appointed representative of the plaintiff’s estate or a real party in interest to pursue this action. Therefore, the plaintiff’s claims were barred by the two-year statute of limitations.

Successfully mediated a motor vehicle accident case involving two buses, where the plaintiff was a passenger in one of the buses and claimed to have sustained permanent injuries. The plaintiff was involved in a subsequent motor vehicle accident about one year later and alleged that her injuries were exacerbated by the second accident. Lisa argued that the plaintiff’s injuries were pre-existing, that the accident was caused by the other bus driver, and that the plaintiff failed to produce any medical evidence that she was unable to return to work as a result of either the first or second accident. Lisa was able to resolve the matter for less than 10% of the plaintiff’s six figure settlement demand.

Obtained an arbitration award in favor of a home inspection company where the plaintiffs claimed that the home inspector failed to identify material defects during the home inspection, more specifically, a structural and water infiltration issue. Lisa argued that the home inspection company was entitled to an arbitration award in their favor because: 1) the plaintiffs failed to initiate legal action within the one-year statute of limitations; 2) the plaintiffs failed to produce any supporting admissible expert opinions; and 3) the plaintiffs failed to establish a prima facie case of negligence against the home inspection company.

Lisa was part of the team that successfully defended an asbestos exposure case in Pennsylvania. The defendant argued that under the applicable test, the plaintiff was unable to demonstrate sufficient frequency, regularity, and proximity of exposure to asbestos, and that the plaintiff's minimal exposure was simply insufficient to establish a prima facie case. On appeal, the Appellate Division affirmed that this is the correct standard for mesothelioma cases, and published the decision.
