Sonam focuses her legal practice in the areas of premises liability, premise security, commercial litigation, and products liability for corporate clients, including one of the nation’s largest retailers. Sonam manages her own caseload and handles all aspects of her cases including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, arbitrations, and trials.

Sonam began her career by serving as an Assistant District Attorney with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office where she became a skilled trial attorney. As a member of the Major Trials Unit, Sonam tried jury and bench trials for hundreds of major felony criminal matters where she proudly advocated for adult and juvenile victims.

Prior to joining McDonnell & Associates, Sonam practiced at a small Philadelphia law firm where she handled personal injury matters and she led the landlord-tenant practice group.

Sonam earned her law degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she graduated as a distinguished member of the Order of Barristers and was recognized for excellence in Trial Advocacy. Sonam received her bachelor’s degree from Temple University in Classics where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa for exceptional academic achievement.

Sonam is a first-generation Indian-American and speaks Gujarati and Hindi fluently. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania.

Sonam has successfully tried numerous bench trials and jury trials ranging from felons possessing firearms to gunpoint robberies in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. She earned recognition for securing a conviction in her first felony jury trial. The defendant, who was pulled over during a traffic stop, was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he had previously been convicted of assaulting a police officer. When the officers found the gun underneath the defendant’s seat and attempted to arrest him, he forcefully shoved the officer before fleeing. He was ultimately arrested by the police officers. Despite the veteran defense attorney’s best efforts, Sonam was able to convince the jury of the defendant’s culpability using DNA evidence found on the gun.

Sonam obtained a judgment of over $75,000 in Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Civil Division in a bench trial against a contractor who abandoned a project for which he had been hired by successfully arguing violations under the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.
